Mobile Racking is a high-density storage solution that significantly increases storage capacity while maintaining direct and 100% accessibility to each pallet. These specialised racks are mounted on motorised mobile bases that move the racks laterally along rails, eliminating unnecessary aisles and creating space for more pallet positions.

LSE’s MovoRack mobile storage racks optimise warehouse volume, normally occupied by the working aisles between racks, by compacting or separating the racking units in a completely controlled way. At any time, only the working aisle required is opened, ensuring efficient use of space and easy pallet access.

Also known as MOVO or Movirack, it’s a dynamic, compact storage solution that offers total flexibility and is suitable for every type of palletised goods and commodity where access to any SKU at any time is essential. By condensing the racking, and eliminating aisles, the system creates extra space and maximises the storage area.

These laterally moveable racking runs are controlled by radio remote control or at the press of a button. When the racking opens, an aisle is created for a forklift truck or automated guided vehicle (AGV), to enter and deposit or retrieve a pallet, and manual picking is also made possible.

Mobile racking is a high-density storage system for pallets where racks are installed on motorised mobile bases that move laterally on rails embedded in the floor. LSE’s MovoRack mobile racking eliminates unnecessary aisles by compacting the racks and opening a single working aisle where needed, significantly increasing storage capacity while maintaining 100% direct access to every pallet.

The MovoRack mobile rack is an excellent alternative for leveraging available surface area while maintaining access to each pallet stored. This system combines the features of adjustable pallet racking (direct access, multiple SKUs, versatility) with the advantages of high-density solutions (space savings, increased storage capacity).

Absolutely. The racks incorporate safety devices that meet current regulations and ensure the safe operation of the mobile equipment, protecting operators and the stored goods. The mobile bases are manufactured in compliance with the safety guidelines of the UNE 15095 standard and are CE marked, in addition to the rest of the regulations applicable to adjustable racking.

Mobile pallet racking systems can provide up to 80% more storage capacity than conventional racking while requiring up to 50% less floor space for the same volume of goods. The system offers 100% individual pallet access and is highly energy-efficient, making it ideal for cold-storage environments. Yes. When purchasing an LSE mobile racking system, operator and supervisor training is included as part of the installation contract. LSE’s mobile racking systems require fewer access aisles, significantly increasing the number of pallets that can be stored within an existing warehouse footprint. At the same time, the system maintains immediate access to each pallet, which is particularly valuable for warehouses managing multiple product lines or batch-controlled inventory.

Characteristics Of Mobile RacksMobile Pallet Racking

The standard configuration typically allows up to 16 mobile bases per block. If additional bases are required, a fixed racking row can be installed between blocks to create multiple mobile sections. Under specific engineering conditions, configurations exceeding 16 bases per block may also be possible.

This is a decision made in the design phase. Clearly, the densest storage capacity is achieved with the configuration that allows a single working aisle to be opened for forklift operations. Nevertheless, if the customer requires it, more than one working aisle can be opened simultaneously — albeit at the cost of reducing the number of mobile bases and, consequently, the storage capacity.

The working aisle width is defined during the system design phase and depends on the type of forklift operating in the warehouse. The aisle must be wide enough to allow safe manoeuvring of the selected material-handling equipment.

In MovoRack racking, the working aisle can be over 90 m deep. However, this measurement is conditioned by the customer’s operations and regulations on evacuation procedures for each warehouse.

The bases move at an average speed of 4.2 m per minute. In other words, a mobile base can open a 3-metre-wide aisle in under 50 seconds.

MovoRack includes three automatic operating modes and one manual mode:

MovoRack is suitable for a wide range of goods, including standard pallets, long items, reels, coils, and tyres. It’s ideal for low to medium-rotation products and adaptable to various warehouse layouts.

MovoRack increases warehouse efficiency by maximising storage density while maintaining direct pallet access. By reducing unnecessary aisles and improving material flow, the system can significantly reduce handling times and increase overall warehouse throughput.

In a freezer store, LSE’s mobiles can be fitted with automatic light switching so that the lights only come on in the open aisles. When compared to a freezer store where the lights are left on, this feature can save up to 70% of the total lighting cost. Installing LSE mobiles in a freezer store increases capacity over fixed racking by approximately 75%. So long as the number of access doors is not increased, and the additional pallets arrive on temperature, the energy required to keep the product at an acceptable core temperature should not increase. Hence, the energy cost per pallet stored is significantly reduced

Unique LSE rails are laid in the warehouse floor, either when the warehouse is built or as a retrofit. Electrically powered bases are fitted onto the rails, which support the back-to-back fixed racking. The mobile bases move either at the touch of a button or via remote control. Each base can carry a maximum of 360 tons.

Use Of Mobile Racking

Any model of front-loading forklift (counterbalanced and reach trucks) can be used, provided that the aisle width and lifting height allow it. The most common forklifts employed are reach trucks: they require aisles narrower than 3 m, their lifting height exceeds 10 m, and their operator cabins can be thermally protected (extremely useful for working in cold stores).

No. The MovoRack racking system can be equipped with the same range of accessories used to adapt static adjustable racking to store non-palletised goods. This means that it is possible to outfit movable aisle racks to be able to house different types of unit loads, e.g., containers, coils and drums. Moreover, the MOVORACK system with cantilever racking is the perfect solution for the high-density storage of long and bulky loads (pipes, profiles and wooden boards, for instance).

Yes. With these pallet rack sliding shelves, orders can be picked from the racks themselves thanks to the multi-aisle operating mode. This option allows operators to open up to three working aisles at a time as opposed to just one.

We’ve been asked this question by prospective clients when their current storage capacity has reached a maximum, and they are faced with the prospect of either relocating or storing more in their current premises. Yes, mobiles can be retrofitted into existing cold stores/warehouses. The existing subfloor would need to be checked to make sure it can take the increase in the loading of the main slab. Then a new floor screed has to be laid to support the rails. Mobile bases are installed on top of the rails. This reinforced screed tends to be around 150 mm thick. At this height, it is a relatively simple matter to design ramps which allow materials handling equipment to move into and out of the mobile area.

There is no limitation as to what can be stored efficiently on mobile bases. Each system is custom-designed to your specific needs. We have installed systems throughout the country where clients have stored chicken, fish, meat, paper, drums of juice, and wait for it, motor vehicles. The first LSE system, for example, was designed to carry lengths of steel.

Yes, we have successfully relocated systems around South Africa. Unfortunately, you cannot take the rails as they are embedded into the floor, but all other components can be dismantled and reused so long as they are in good working order.

Traditionally, mobiles have been used in the cold storage industry, but we are seeing a growing interest in the ambient sector. The system is custom-made to suit your product, so theoretically any store could have a need for mobile racking

A Service Level Agreement (SLA) is where LSE Storage agrees to inspect a client’s mobile racking system, normally twice a year. A report is issued after both visits. We will supply graphic illustrations documenting the damage found on each mobile, thus you will have a complete service history record at your fingertips. A quote for any repairs that may be necessary will also be sent to the client. While the inspection will concentrate on the mobile bases, any obvious racking damage will also be noted. Other checks can include floor surveys and overloading checks using a sample of pallet weights. Clients can also get telephonic after-hours support to resolve problems.

It is up to the client whether or not to do the repairs. However, over the years, we have noted that clients who have put off doing repairs have had to do them later at a far higher cost and greater disruption to their daily operation. Regular reports showing good levels of maintenance should assist clients with insurers and health and safety authorities, and provide an independent assessment of the system as a whole.
